Lettering Works Business Journal - June in Review

Business Journal: a place to celebrate wins & reflect - 42nd Edition

June’s highlights included presenting at Adobe’s Create Now Chicago event, launching a new collection of travel stickers, seeing my Chicago designs as searchable gifs on Instagram, and doing all of the fun summer Chicago things.

The Big Wins

  • Presented at Adobe’s Create Now Chicago event at the Chicago History Museum. It was an honor to be asked to share my work and perspective as well as learn about new AI tools Adobe is continuously developing.

  • Created a new Travel Collection of stickers. Travel has long been a source of creative inspiration for my design work and lifestyle. Explore the full collection here.

  • Lettering Works gifs are now searchable on Instagram. It’s been a joy to bring these Chicago designs new life with the help of Jordyn Harrison, as she participated in a trade through my Artist Trade Program and shared her animation skills in exchange for support building her business, Foposoul.

General Updates + Accomplishments:

  • Shared a blog post “Empowering Success: Key Branding Takeaways from Advising 10 Minority Businesses in ScaleHigher and agreed to teach and mentor another ScaleHigher cohort with the WBDC. Going from participant to advisor has been such a fun journey and I’ve loved being able to support fellow entrepreneurs through working with the Women’s Business Development Center.

  • Worked on all of the client projects including designs for the Lightner Museum, Zeller Electric, The Wink House, Atlanta Botanical Garden, and The Mütter Museum at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.

  • Restocked some Chicago-based consignment shops: Wolfbait, Paperish Mess, and Buddy (in the Chicago Cultural Center), as well as prepped for the upcoming Faire Summer Market (happening July 18-20).

  • Celebrated Father’s Day in Milwaukee. The weekend was filled with family, lots of pickle ball, pool time, and a bonfire and cookout.

  • Enjoyed Summertime in Chicago. From attending our first Lyric Opera performance (West Side Story) and our first concert at the Salt Shed (Nickel Creek) to the free Chicago Blues Fest in Millennium Park to Puerto Rican Fest to Do Division Fest to an art show at Woman Made Gallery in Pilsen to the Logan Square Arts Fest and Palmer Square Art Fair in our neighborhood, the month was filled with art and culture. Summertime in Chicago is simply the best!

  • Hosted our friends from England! We enjoyed showing Amanda and Tom the beauty of Garfield Park Conservatory (and all of my plant stickers in the gift shop) as well as taking a gangsters and ghosts kayaking tour down the Chicago River.

  • Quietly updated copy on my branding page (in addition to the home and about pages I rolled out last month). You can read more about my work with Julianne Ishler and Enneagram Empress here.

June was a beautiful balance of fun work and countless fun events and activities in Chicago. Realizing that I’ve now worked with 11 museums (and counting) and have so many wonderful projects and opportunities in the works has me feeling so grateful for this small business of mine. I’m already on track to exceed my revenue goals for this year (and we are only half way through the year)! If you’d like to ensure a spot on my calendar for the remainder of 2023, be sure to reach out.

In July, I’m most looking forward to continuing my work with the WBDC, starting new projects, and increasing wholesale orders through participation in the Faire Summer Market, as well as visiting family and celebrating at a friend’s wedding.

JULY IS DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH!

There’s no better time to stock up on thoughtful collection of Disability Pride designs - stickers are fully stocked and ready for purchase via Faire and our website.

Thank you for being here, for supporting me, and for following along with my entrepreneurial journey.
