Lettering Works Business Journal - July in Review

Business Journal: a place to celebrate wins & reflect - 43rd Edition

July’s highlights included speaking at the Typism Summit, wrapping up some fun designs for the Lightner Museum, spending time with friends and family, and ideating on a new pedestrian-centric passion project.

The Big Wins

  • Presented at the Typism Summit on the topic of passion projects. It was an honor to be invited to speak at the international summit for lettering artists and have an opportunity to share a bit of my creative entrepreneurial journey.

  • Wrapped up custom design work with the Lightner Museum, which included three new illustrations of iconic artifacts from their collection. The completion of this project marks my first custom collection that resulted from attending the Museum Store Association conference in Denver in May.

Our next international trip is scheduled for Paris

Faire Summer Market kept me busy with orders

General Updates + Accomplishments:

  • Wrapped up teaching and mentoring my second ScaleHigher cohort with the WBDC. Highlights of my 1:1 work included two participants telling me they had four pages of notes after our one-hour session and witnessing many other business owners feel a renewed sense of excitement and passion for their businesses.

  • Participated in the Faire Summer Market. I enjoyed seeing a boost in wholesale orders, as a result of participating in the virtual event. Wholesale continues to be a large portion of my business these days.

  • Booked a trip to Paris for the fall. Bring on all of the Paris recommendations, as I am excited to have another international trip on the calendar (and am hopeful my renewed passport will arrive with plenty of time to spare).

  • Attended Summerfest and spent a long weekend at Post Lake in Wisconsin with family. Trips to Wisconsin are a staple for us in the summertime.

  • Continued to enjoy summertime in Chicago. From celebrating Daniel’s birthday surrounded by friends to attending multiple concerts and shows to hosting various friends to attending a high school friend’s wedding (and stopping by to see another friend on the way out to the suburbs), we had a packed month filled with fun.

  • Began researching and creating new designs for a pedestrian-centric collection. Carving out intentional time to make art related to things I’m passionate about has always been a priority. Being car-free since 2019 has inspired this latest collection that is in the works.

July was a mix of all of the fun summer things and a few deeply sad moments as we lost two family members - Bill Jacobi (my mom’s great uncle) and John Goddard (Daniel’s grandpa). We look forward to seeing family in the coming weeks to celebrate the lives of these two kind-hearted and impactful men.

In August, I’m most looking forward to continuing work on my new passion project, starting a few exciting, new projects, and spending time with family.

In Loving Memory of Bill Jacobi & John Goddard
