We have work to do. And must continue to humbly show up with empathy, open minds, and a willingness to do our part. These artists are leading the way.

Many businesses have been quiet over the past week as focus shifts to the important and often uncomfortable conversations that are happening about racism in America. These conversations need to continue to happen. Black lives matter and we, collectively as a society, need to put in the work to make it a reality that can be felt by BIPOC.

Messages of hope and unity fill storefronts throughout the city, with some honoring George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. I hope this look at the beauty that has come out of this fight for social justice will inspire you to examine how you can show up and contribute your own unique talents to the Black Lives Matter movement and social justice in your own neighborhoods and communities.

Below are snapshots from Wicker Park’s pop-up murals on Milwaukee Avenue between Damen and Wood:

All of these expressive and impactful murals represent the beauty of a city coming together for a cause. It has been inspiring to see so many artists in the community step up for change and using their artwork to advocate for what is important. There have been several different groups and leaders in getting murals up around Chicago including Sounding Boards, JC Rivera, and Delilah.
